Phase Five Resources


When starting Phase Five, children should be able to read and spell words containing adjacent consonants and some polysyllabic words. This phase will allow children to expand their knowledge of graphemes and phonemes for use in reading and spelling. They will encounter alternative pronunciations for graphemes they already know as well as learning new graphemes with their alternative spellings; their knowledge of high frequency words will help support this. Phase Five will allow children to begin building their word specific knowledge of the spellings of words.
